Western Power’s Contractor will be doing a letter drop to all properties located in the Joondanna area that are in the project boundary for the North Perth/Mount Hawthorn (TUPP) Underground Power Project.

The letter is to acknowledge that the works are to begin in the area and provide key details as to the work being conducted and contact details. Please click here to see a copy of the letter that will be received at the property address.

If you have any concerns about the works, please contact the Western Power’s Contractor on the provided contact details.

Property owner contributions

The cost of undergrounding power is split between Western Power and the ratepayer.

A service charge is the amount to be charged to properties in the project area and reflects the share of the project cost, which consists of:

Network charge – this is determined by property type (residential or non-residential) and the associated demand for network capacity as allocated by Western Power.

  • Residential ratepayers in the project area will be charged $2,078.05
  • Non-Residential properties will be subject to variable network charge, based on their electrical load. This is calculated as $305 per KVA and reflects the proportional share of the electricity distribution network that supplies each property.

Connection charge – the figure varies dependent upon several factors:

  • If the property has an existing underground consumer mains
  • If the main meter is located on a service pole away from the physical residence
  • The number of electricity meters that share a mains supply.

Property owners can expect to receive their service charge in the 2025/26 financial year. The City will be in contact with property owners to confirm the service charge amount prior to the 1 July 2025.
