The Coastal Explorer bus is back this summer
The Coastal Explorer bus is coming back to the Sunset Coast for summer 2024/25 through a partnership between the City of Joondalup and City of Stirling.
The Coastal Explorer bus is coming back to the Sunset Coast for summer 2024/25 through a partnership between the City of Joondalup and City of Stirling.
The open-top double decker bus gives locals and visitors a unique way to get to some of Perth’s premier coastal destinations.
The service starts in the Perth CBD, travels to Scarborough Beach then passes through Trigg, North Beach, Watermans Bay, Marmion and Sorrento on its way to Hillarys Boat Harbour.
The bus will complete six hop-on, hop-off round trips a day between Scarborough and Hillarys, before returning to the Perth CBD.
The City of Joondalup and City of Stirling are supporting the service to help the community get on board and enjoy the ride.
Tickets allow for travel between Scarborough and Hillarys all day, and they can also include the return journey to Barrack Street Jetty late in the afternoon.
Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said it was exciting to partner with the City of Stirling to bring the Coastal Explorer back to Perth’s north this summer.
“The City welcomes initiatives that boost our visitor economy and demonstrate why Joondalup is a great place to live, work and play, as the Coastal Explorer certainly does,” Mayor Jacob said.
“The route takes in much of the City’s 17 kilometres of pristine coastline, allowing local residents and visitors to Perth the opportunity to have a swim or a relaxing day at one of our beautiful beaches or take in some of our wonderful cafes and restaurants.
“It also provides an ideal way to access one of the state’s most popular tourist destinations in Hillarys Boat Harbour, which is also home to the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA), as well as a direct ferry to Rottnest Island.”
City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said the Coastal Explorer would bring more tourists to Perth’s Sunset Coast and give locals a fun and family-friendly summer activity.
“This is a great example of two neighbouring local governments working together on an initiative that will benefit their communities,” Mayor Irwin said.
“The Coastal Explorer will connect our premier coastal destinations and draw more people to our local attractions and businesses.
“We have a very special stretch of coastline between Scarborough and Hillarys, and this will give locals and visitors a special way of experiencing it.”
The Coastal Explorer service will start on Saturday 4 January 2025. Tickets can be pre-booked through the Coastal Explorer website.
