Belonging Hubs buzzing at community markets

“I think it’s a great initiative and what I’m impressed with is the way the community is getting involved and they want to show you how they feel about their home and their community,” wearJPW artist Jareen Wyatt said.

The City of Stirling’s Belonging Hubs have been drawing crowds at market events across the City, bolstering participation in the Everyone Belongs community engagement campaign.

Featuring so far at Mirrabooka Friday Markets, Stirling Farmers Market, Down to Earth Markets, Stirling Street Food in Yokine, and Inglewood Monday Night Markets – the Hubs have highlighted stalls and activities that celebrate inclusion, diversity and wellbeing.

Hundreds of attendees have provided input on breaking down barriers to belonging by voting on their priorities, sharing ideas, or completing the Belonging Survey – with the advice to inform the City’s new Access and Inclusion Plan and Public Health Plan.

Participants have also been snapping up creations for sale by the Hubs’ stallholders, including Microenterprise People, the Djookanka Sisters and wearJPW.

“I think it’s a great initiative and what I’m impressed with is the way the community is getting involved and they want to show you how they feel about their home and their community,” wearJPW artist Jareen Wyatt said.

Djookanka Sisters clothing designer Naomi Nelson agreed that hearing from the community is crucial.

“It’s so important that you come out to events like these and you’re getting to the people really,” she said.

“It gives people the chance to give feedback and in really cool ways as well.”

You can still check out the last Belonging Hub at the Summer X Salt Markets at Clarko Reserve in Trigg on Saturday 15 March from 8.00am to 1.00pm.
