Carine Community Parkland concept ready for community consultation

Residents are invited to learn more about the upgrade by attending the drop-in session at Carine Regional Open Space playground on Thursday 10 April from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.
The City of Stirling is inviting community feedback on its concept plan to upgrade the play space at Carine Regional Open Space on Okely Road.
With the current playground reaching the end of its serviceable life, the City engaged with the community in 2023 to understand priorities for improvement. Based on this input, a concept plan has been developed, and residents will have the opportunity to provide further feedback.
The proposed upgrades aim to enhance accessibility, play value, and community enjoyment. Key features include:
- New playground equipment featuring a large corkscrew slide similar to the current one, and an elevated rope tunnel through the adjacent tree canopy.
- Accessible play items including a basket swing, wheelchair-accessible seesaw, sensory play items and communication boards.
- Games such as snakes and ladders, battleship, and four-in-a-row, to help foster intergenerational play
- Basketball and netball area expanding the basketball area to half court and adding a netball goal shooting area
- Replacing existing shelters with a large shelter for group gatherings, and two regular picnic shelters
- Numerous seating and picnic tables, including seating under the existing plane trees.
Community feedback also highlighted concerns about dogs entering the playground. In response, the concept design includes several measures to discourage this. These include:
Relocating the main pedestrian paths away from the playground
Reconfiguring paths to encourage walkers to follow them, instead of shortcutting through the play area
Encircling the playground with a patterned concrete path to delineate the play space zone.
Ensuring drink fountains adjacent to the playground don’t have dog bowls and installing a drink fountain with a dog bowl at the main reserve path intersection.
Round two consultation will begin on Monday 31 March with submissions closing at 5.00pm on Monday 5 May. To review the concept plan and share feedback, visit stirling.wa.gov.au/carineplayground.
Residents are also invited to learn more about the upgrade by attending the drop-in session at Carine Regional Open Space playground on Thursday 10 April from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.
Community feedback will help finalise the plans for Carine Community Parkland and project updates will be shared on the project page.
