Learn about the threat of Polyphagous shot-hole borer

05 November 2024

Join us for an online information session on 21 November to learn about the Polyphagous shot-hole bore.

Join us for an online information session on Thursday 21 November, from 6.00pm – 7.15pm to learn about the Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB), an invasive wood-boring beetle that poses a serious threat to local trees. This pest creates tunnels in tree trunks and branches, introducing a Fusarium fungus it cultivates as food source. In susceptible tree species, the fungus can lead to dieback and even tree death.

During this session, experts will discuss the tree-boring beetle’s biology, lifecycle, and potential impacts. You’ll also learn which tree species are most susceptible, the signs and symptoms to watch for, and how the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is working to contain its spread.

Community awareness and action are crucial in preventing the spread of PSHB, and this session will cover important topics like green waste disposal and the safe transportation of plant and wood materials. For more information, visit https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/borer
