New bike repair station ready to roll on Mitchell Freeway shared path
The Department of Transport provided more than $44,000 in funding for the project through its Principal Shared Path Expansion Program.
A bike repair station has been installed along the Mitchell Freeway principal shared path, giving cyclists access to maintenance tools, bike racks and more.
Located at the end of Osborne Place in Stirling, the bike repair station was designed and delivered by the City of Stirling, in partnership with the Department of Transport.
The Department of Transport provided more than $44,000 in funding for the project through its Principal Shared Path Expansion Program.
The bike repair station features a range of basic maintenance tools for cyclists, such as a bike pump, spanners, Allen keys and screwdrivers.
There is also an accessible water fountain, seating bench, bin and bike racks, providing a rest area for the 410 cyclists who pass through the area each weekday.
The City has plans for landscaping at the site, including an irrigated turf area that ties into the existing parkland, tree planting and a native garden bed at the end of the cul-de-sac.
“This bike repair station gives people a free and convenient place to maintain their bikes, fill up their drink bottles or simply take a break,” City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin said.
“Cycling is a sustainable, healthy and increasingly popular way to travel, and we are grateful to the WA Government for their continued investment in local cycling infrastructure.”
The 3.7km stretch of the Mitchell Freeway principal shared path from Civic Place in Stirling to Reid Highway in Balcatta was opened by the State Government in May 2023.
Once the Stephenson Avenue extension is completed next year, there will be a continuous link along the Mitchell Freeway principal shared path from Reid Highway to the Perth CBD.
