The City is supportive of play equipment within the verge area provided it is safe.

Play equipment on the verge, such as trampolines and basketball hoops, are assessed on a case-by-case basis. The City uses a pragmatic approach that aims to promote a healthy lifestyle while ensuring public safety. Play equipment can be located on a verge provided it is safe.

The City sometimes receives complaints regarding the use of residential verges and we investigate these complaints to ensure the verge area is safe.

The City is aware of an ePetition titled ‘Support the retention and encouragement of play equipment on verges’. Once this petition has closed, it will be verified by City Officers and then tabled at Council. Council will then vote to formally receive the ePetition and refer it to the CEO for consideration and appropriate action.

The use of verges within the City is guided by the City of Stirling Thoroughfares and Public Places Local Law, noting that this local law has been scheduled for review in March 2025.

It is proposed to be modernised and renamed to the City of Stirling Streets and Public Places Local Law, and a community workshop will be held as part of this process to ensure the local law reflects contemporary community sentiment.
