Stirling Station carpark partial closure and Mitchell Freeway southbound on-ramp opening

From Thursday 10 October, a section of the southern car park and the motorbike shelter at Stirling Station will be closed to safely commence the upgrade works to the carpark.  

ACROD parking, drop off and pick up bays, and short-term parking will remain accessible and be relocated to the eastern section of the car park during works. There will be no disruption to the northern carpark or bike shelter. Passengers with reduced mobility are encouraged to park in the northern carpark.  

Alternatively temporary parking will be provided for public transport passengers. Please allow for additional travel time to Stirling Station and follow all signage during the works.  

A full closure of the southern carpark will be required at a later stage to finalise upgrade works.  

Once the works are complete, access to the station’s southern carpark will be via Cedric Street and the new Stephenson Avenue. 

The new southbound on-ramp to the Mitchell Freeway from Cedric Street along the alignment of the future Stephenson Avenue will open on Monday 14 October 2024, improving congestion and connectivity in the area.  

Access to the temporary Cedric Street southbound on-ramp will also permanently close at the same time.  

• Road users travelling on Cedric Street eastbound will need to turn right into the new on-ramp to Mitchell Freeway. 

• Road users travelling on Cedric Street westbound will need to turn left into the new on-ramp to Mitchell Freeway.  

The temporary Cedric Street southbound on-ramp will also permanently close at the same time. Access into and out of the Stirling Station northern and southern car parks on Cedric Street will continue to be maintained. 

The opening is part of ongoing works for the Stephenson Avenue Extension Project, which will also improve traffic flows, provide better local access throughout the area, and increase capacity for the local transport network. The project also includes upgrading the Stirling Station bus interchange to a modern 30-stand facility and increasing public transport options in the area. 

There will be signage in the area to support these changes and motorists are encouraged to follow this signage and exercise caution when merging on Mitchell Freeway from the new Stephenson Avenue southbound on-ramp.  

The Stephenson Avenue Extension Project aims to create a crucial new connection between Scarborough Beach Road and Cedric Street. This project includes a grade-separated interchange with the Mitchell Freeway, which will replace the current Cedric Street interchange, alongside new local road links to Ellen Stirling Boulevard.
