The City of Stirling is inviting residents to explore their local community gardens at a special Community Gardens Open Day on Saturday 26 October.
The City of Stirling is inviting residents to explore their local community gardens at a special Community Gardens Open Day on Saturday 26 October. Four gardens across the City will open their gates for a morning filled with family-friendly activities, guided tours, and educational workshops. This event is a fantastic opportunity for garden lovers, beginners, and families to learn more about sustainable gardening and how to get involved in these community spaces.
Visitors can enjoy morning tea, raffles, and learn from experts who will be on hand to answer questions and share the benefits of joining a community garden. Each garden will offer something unique, here’s what you can expect at each location:
Hamersley Habitat Community Garden invites visitors for a morning of exploration and learning from 9.30am – 11.30am. Learn from one of the City’s Sustainability Officers on how to create a biodiverse and productive garden. The workshop will provide tips on how to blend native and edible plants to build a beautiful and eco-friendly.
Inglewood and Mount Lawley Community Garden will be open from 9.30am – 1.30pm, celebrating the official opening of its new patio and propagation centre. Enjoy activities for children, browse plant and seed sales, and take a tour of the stunning garden. Take part in a special workshop on Huegelkultur and Lasagne Beds, which will demonstrate how to use organic waste and garden cuttings to enrich soil and conserve water.
The Coastal Community Garden will open from 9.30am – 12.00pm with a workshop on “Soil Dynamics! Getting to know you soil” which will explore the essentials of soil health, including pH, nutrients, and types of soil. Participants will also get hands-on experience making their own batch of potting mix from scratch.
Westminster Community Garden, one of the longest-established gardens in the City, will be open from 9:30am – 11:30am. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or a complete beginner, this is a great opportunity to tour the garden, learn about its history, and see how you can become a member. Committee members will guide visitors through the garden, answering any questions about the benefits of community gardening.
Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn about sustainable gardening practices, or simply enjoy a fun morning out, the Community Gardens Open Day offers something for everyone.
