The City is currently investigating the extension of Hutton Street through to Walters Drive.
Background
On 5 January 2018, Amendment 1291/41 to the Metropolitan Region Scheme was gazetted which reserved land for an extension of Hutton Street from Scarborough Beach Road through to Jon Sanders Drive.
The City undertook investigation into the feasibility of extending the road in either one stage directly to Jon Sanders Drive, or in two stages being initially to Walters Drive and then finally to Jon Sanders Drive. The Western Australian Planning Commission has recently acquired the land required for the extension to Walters Drive.
The extension of Hutton Street aims to improve traffic flow in the area by reducing congestion on Scarborough Beach Road and other roads in the immediate network. The extension will also facilitate higher density mixed use development which is in keeping with the City’s vision for the Herdsman Glendalough Area.
Hutton Street has also been identified to take over the future freight route function from Stephenson Avenue and will play an increasingly important role in the transportation of freight between the Mitchell Freeway and Osborne Park.
Detail design works for the Hutton Street extension will commence next financial year (2024-25). The exact intersection configuration and project extents are therefore still to be determined.
Subject to successful state funding contributions for the project, construction is proposed to commence towards the end of the 2025-26 financial year, continuing through the 2026-27 financial year.
