The City is undertaking local engagement to inform landscape upgrades to Joondanna Reserve.

The City of Stirling recognises Joondanna Reserve is highly valued by the local community and is planning to upgrade the amenities at this site to enhance recreational and play experiences.

Themes identified in the 2016 Joondanna Reserve upgrade - POS assessment included:

  • More playgrounds and play options
  • Request for public toilet across popular reserves
  • Additional trees and greening
  • The need for greater amenities such as seating and BBQs
  • A desire for greater access to public open space.

The City has received a federal grant of $500,000 to help fund this project, and is committed to completing the upgrades during 2024. The City will be undertaking local engagement to help shape the design of the upgrades. The facilities that will be included in the upgrade are listed below:

  • New playground equipment with shade sails
  • New footpath connections
  • New public toilet facilities
  • Updated picnic facilities including a new large gazebo, replacement barbecue and new picnic settings
  • New park furniture, including litter bins and seating
  • New luminaires to the existing footpath light poles
  • New reserve signage
  • Planting of trees, shrubs and groundcovers in select areas
  • Formalising the existing parking bays in the car park. 

A range of feedback options were available during the community enagagement period including email, survey and community drop-in sessions.

FAQs

The existing parking area will be formalised to make more efficient use of the space provided, with 14 parking bays provided including an ACROD parking bay.

This engagement will shape the final design and assist in identifying what the local community would like to see included as park of the landscape upgrades.

The playground will be co-designed with children from the local primary schools. The City’s landscape architect will ensure they playground design caters to children with a range of skills and abilities. It will also include shade sails. The final playground design will be illustrated on this webpage in early 2024.

Public toilets amenities are being proposed as part of Joondanna Reserve Upgrades to ensure the reserve can support longer stay and play opportunities. The 2016 Joondanna Reserve upgrade – POS assessment found a high number of requests from community for public toilet across popular reserves such as Joondanna. 

On completion of the engagement period, the City will review the landscape design in light of the community feedback and respond to any queries or concerns. The final landscape design will be illustrated on this webpage in early 2024.
